Argentina
Life in this laid-back border city revolves around the flow of the Paraguay River.
Just across the Paraguay River, which forms the Paraguay-Argentina border, lies the relaxed and welcoming city of Formosa. It is a place of wide, tree-lined avenues, well-maintained recreational spaces, and attractive city squares. Famed for it’s mild winters, tourists and locals alike can enjoy walks by it’s extensive waterfront “Vuelta Fermoza”, a route full benches, children’s play areas, and plenty of bars and restaurants at which to sample the local cuisine. Three sites of interest you can find just a short walk from the riverfront are the Our Lady of Carmen church (patron saint of Formosa), the informative Craft House (dedicated to the three indiginous cultures of Formosa), and the Juan Pablo Duffard Museum (dedicated to Formosa’s history). Just south of Formosa one can enjoy recreational activities such as biking, kayaking, boat rides, bird watching, or relaxing on the beach, at the 62,000 hectare Laguna Oca wetland reserve.
