Georgia
Recognized as one of Georgia's Immovable Cultural Monuments of National Significance, this fortress offers breathtaking views of the surrounding river valleys and is a prominent national landmark.
Perched strategically on a mountain in eastern Georgia, the Fortress of Ksani dates back to the 16th century with an 18th century reconstruction. The original cobblestone structure featured towers at the northern corners, and later introduced three multilevel towers that leer over the mountainside majestically. Known historically as Mtkvari or Mtveri, the fortress is commonly referred to as Ksani. It was initially built by Prince Bagrat, who established the principality of Mukhrani after acquiring the district from his brother, King David X of Kartli. Today, although partially ruined, the Fortress of Ksani continues to captivate with its imposing presence. Imagining the bygone days, one can envision standing upon its walls, observing the march of armies and feeling the weight of history.
