Step into the lives of 19th century farmer families.
The Freilandmuseum Lehde carefully collected and restored several historic farmsteads to show visitors what life was like before electricity. The buildings are fitted with period furnishings, such as the giant bed shared by the whole family, to show how people lived. Elsewhere, traditional tools demonstrate the various craft’s integral to farm life. Visitors are also invited to try their hand milking, or running in a traditional wooden shoe. One building is dedicated to the Spreewald cucumber, the town’s famous pickle.
