Learn about the art and history of glassmaking in one of Europe’s most beautiful museums.
Founded by the Siegwart brothers in 1817, Glasi Hergiswil is still a functional glassworks. While it was almost closed because of its old machines and technology, a community effort kept the business running, and now allows visitors to hear the story of Glasi Hergiswil. Passing through a labyrinth of rooms, presentations detail the development of the craft at Glasi Hergiswil, and the ups and downs of its family and workers.A space is dedicated to Roberto Niederer’s work to save the glass works after the Second World War. Part walk-in film, part rustic theatre, and part illusions, this time machine is a captivating ode to the art of Glasi, all housed in what the European Council selected as one of the most beautiful museums in Europe in 1996.
