This charming, small city is located at the confluence of the Isonzo and Vipava valleys. Gorizia was separated into two cities during WWII when the international border ran through the city. Today, the diverse landscapes and pleasant Mediterranean climate make Gorizia an ideal resort. The star of the city is the Gorizia Castle, situated on a hill in the center of town. The castle was built in the 11th century and restored in the 1930’s. It offers stunning views of the city with a view of the Alps in the background. This quiet destination is not overrun by tourists, making it the perfect area to relax and enjoy nature’s beauty.
