Explore one of Europe's most attractive castles - atop an extinct volcano!
Constructed in 1155, Grodziec has undergone several renovations during its lifetime to create a striking, genre spanning façade. Widely believed to be one of the most attractive historical buildings in Europe, Grodziec has been a popular tourist attraction since the mid-1830s, with only the Napoleonic Wars deterring earlier visitors. Today, the castle still hasn’t fully recovered from a long history of war, with some damage being as recent as 1945. However, this has kept Grodziec approachable, allowing visitors almost complete access to the grounds, even offering amenities such as a hearth and benches for picnics. Grodziec frequently hosts medieval tournaments, featuring jousting and sword fighting, to give guests a live-action look at its early days.
