Marvel at one of the world’s tallest natural columns inside this beautiful cavern.
The Grotta di Ispinigoli is the opulent, 80-meter-wide antechamber to one of Sardinia’s largest cave systems. Over the millennia, rainfall has seeped through the karst cavern, creating all other manner of cave ornaments, like stalactites, stalagmites and flowstone in shifting ochre hues. On a guided tour, you’ll descend the 280 steps to the base of the cavern, learning about its geology and history, like how it was used as a burial site for thousands of years. The whole way down, you’ll be treated to an ever changing perspective of the cave’s pièce de résistance: a 38-meter-tall column that formed when a stalactite and stalagmite connected. This is said to be the largest in Europe and one of the largest in the world!
