Argentina
Surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, this riverside city is renowned for having the best Carnival in Argentina.
In 1783, sergeant Tomas de Rocamora cleared a parcel of land, distributed 85 lots, assigned a council, and named the new settlement San José de Gualeguaychú. Since then, Gualeguaychú has increased in importance because it lies on the route connecting because it connects Buenos Aires and São Paulo in Brazil. Despite its economic importance, Gualeguaychú could be called a “resort city” where locals and visitors alike flock to the sandy beaches, or relax in the nearby hot springs. You can also stop by the El Patio del Mate market for traditional handicrafts straight from their creators - many being made on-site. However, what Gualeguaychu is best known for is having the biggest and wildest Carnival in Argentina. With parades every weekend from January till March, you have the chance to experience this rich tradition even if you miss the main event in February.
