Barbados
Once a key British military stronghold, this outpost now serves as an educational site with a collection of artifacts and boasts stunning views.
This former British outpost stands as the largest and most significant military landmark in Barbados, with references in historical documents dating back to the 17th century. When the signal stations were established in the early 19th century, it became a pivotal link, relaying signals across the island to alert against uprisings and communicate with ships approaching the island. The station also served as a convalescent post for troops and as an evacuation point for the Garrison during epidemics. Although the station was deserted for some time, it was restored in the 1980s for educational endeavors. Now, it not only showcases signs and descriptions but also houses a collection of military artifacts. Boasting excellent views of the island, it offers a picturesque panorama filled with trees and flowers. A restaurant is also available on the premises.
