From quarry wasteland to ecological sanctuary, this lush forest and wildlife home is a prime example of environmental conservation.
Haller Park is named for the manager that transformed an abandoned limestone quarry into a flourishing nature park with a variety of plant and animal species. The task at hand was challenging but Haller worked tirelessly to introduce beauty to a desolate landscape. With next to no vegetation and limitations imposed by its location on a water table, trial and error eventually led to finding trees and plants that could withstand the harsh conditions. Today, Haller Park is home to a million trees and hundreds of other flora and fauna. Learn about and see all of the giraffes, hippos and crocodiles that call Haller Park home.
