Hämeenlinna is the oldest inland city in Finland, having grown around the13th century Häme Castle. Situated on the picturesque shores of Lake Vanajavesi, the castle and surrounding Linnanpuisto castle park make for a pleasant place to soak up the past and take in the stunning scenery. Afterwards, take a stroll through the charming city center, where you can immerse yourself in the culture and learn more about local history at museums like the Finnish Prison Museum, The Artillery Museum of Finland, or the home of composer Jean Sibelius. If the lake views from Häme Castle weren't enough for you, head to the Aulanko Natural Reserve for hiking and other leisure activities.
