The deepest freshwater spring on the North Island is a crystal-clear ribbon running through a scenic nature reserve.
It’s estimated that it takes around 70 years for the water in Hamurana Springs to work its way through the underground aquifers and gush out into the surface. Some 4 million litres of water per hour fill the 50-foot-deep spring before they flow on their way through the nature reserve. The river banks are lined with towering redwoods and lush greenery, making a walk on the trail here a serene escape.
