For the young and young-at-heart, this 25455 square meter Dream Factory is part toy museum, part unbridled joy.
Starting with the simple desire to build an H0-scale railroad from for his four-year-old son back in 1977, Hans-Peter Porsche immersed himself in the fanciful world of toy collecting, subscribing to receive every new train that the Märklin Company issued. After accruing a collection of 450 toys, the father-and-son collectors decided to open up their collection to the public rather than keep it stored in boxes. Commissioning noted architect Volker Staab to create a building with the outline of a figure eight – the classic shape of a small model railroad, Traumwerk is joy made manifest. You don’t have to be a train lover to be wowed by the 40 model trains, winding their way over 1.7 miles of track through a miniaturized slice of Europe. Of course it goes without saying that there will be some toys for big-kids too, like Hans-Peter’s personal Porsche collection.
