Australia
Set in a natural bushland, this zoo specializes in protecting and breeding and Australia's native species.
Healesville Sanctuary was established back in 1923, and was the first place to successfully breed a platypus in captivity. Since then countless other successful rescues, rehabilitations and breedings have taken place. The sanctuary aims to educate people about and fight the extinction of wildlife native to Australia. Well-known animals such as kangaroos, wallabies and dingoes as well as other lesser-known creatures such as the helmeted honey-eater call the zoo home. Daily animal encounters with koalas, pythons and more entertain and engage curious children and adults alike. Be sure to check out one of the many shows offered throughout the day.
