This exquisite Tudor manor was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn.
Built in the 13th century, Hever Castle was converted into a noble manor in the 15th century by Geoffrey Boleyn, whose great-grand daughter Anne Boleyn grew up here before going on to marry King Henry VIII’s (and help spark the English Reformation in the process). Today, the castle’s interior is a shrine to the Tudor queen, filled with period art, furniture, and Anne’s personal belongings, such as her prayer books. Castle’s renowned Italian Garden was made at the turn of the 20th century by American millionaire William Waldorf Astor to showcase his statuary, and today, visitors will find statues, fountains, chess pieces carved from golden yew, and a loggia at the lake amongst 4000 roses. Throughout the year, the castle hosts special events, from jousting tournaments to dog shows and Christmas markets.
