Hohle Fels

Hohle Fels, a cave of outstanding archeological importance, is located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Swabian Alps in Germany.

About

Situated in a valley dotted with limestone rock formations that were considered to be sacred in ancient times, is Hohle Fels. This 100 feet rock formation is similar in shape to the iconic Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio de Janeiro. The cave contains one of the largest caverns in the Swabian Alps and has a surface area of over 1,500 feet that reaches 75 feet high in some parts. Major archeological discoveries have been made in the cave in recent times where everyday objects such as weapons, jewelry, and spectacular sculptures have been unearthed. These are estimated to be over 35,000 years old and include the famous palm-sized ‘Venus of Hohle Fels’, the oldest figure of a woman to be ever found. Dig deep into the past while exploring all this geological wonder has to offer and experience a slice of history that visitors and adventurers of all ages will enjoy.
