Howick Falls

According to local legend, a giant snake-creature lives in the pool at the base of this breathtaking waterfall.

About

Surrounded by the greenery of South Africa’s lush Midlands, Howick Falls cascade off a 95 meter sheer cliff in an amazing display of natural beauty. To local Zulus, it’s known as KwaNogqaza, or the ‘Place of the Tall One’, and believed to be home to their ancestral spirits and a giant serpent. A series of signs share more information about the falls, from their geology to the story of their cryptid. There are several walking trails in the area, such as the Howick Falls Gorge Walk, which runs from Harvard Street and to the base of the falls. Nearby you’ll also find a cafe and some curio shops.
