Cyprus
Overlooking the Mediterranean, this holy Muslim tomb is a significant site for Muslims in Northern Cyprus
Likely built atop a pagan shrine, the Hz. Omer Tomb is the final resting place of Hazreti (Saint) Omer and six other warriors of the Muawiya army who came to Cyprus as part of the Ottoman conquest in the 7th century. Situated right on the Mediterranean and backed by the Besparmak Mountains, the white-washed mosque and tomb are a perfect place to find a bit of peace. Though it's not exactly a secret - the tomb is one of the most popular religious sites in northern Cyrpus, particularly during Ramadan. In the 1950s, the building underwent renovations and now houses tapestries, rugs, and books, aside from the tombs themselves.
