This 800-year-old complex is akin to a medieval safety deposit box.
Imchguiguiln was built as a fortified granary in the 13th century to protect local Berbers and their harvest. Sturdily constructed from stone, this complex was essentially a series of medieval safety deposit boxes, which were used into the 20th century. Amazingly well preserved, the granary is still cared for by a local friend Berber couple who offer guided tours of the site, bringing its history and the region’s culture to life.
