Ecuador
Claiming to lie on the “true” equator, this interdisciplinary museum blends physics, folklore, and culture.
Located a short distance from the “official” equatorial monument, the Intinan Solar Museum claims that its position is actually the true 0° latitude. The rocky surroundings have made accurate GPS readings difficult, so they may very well be right. The centerpiece of the museum is a totem pole with several science stations around it where your guide with showcase some of the quirks of geophysics in a series of fun demonstrations. Sure, some are just for show, but its still an entertaining diversion. Along with the equator-centric activities, the museum also introduces visitors to different aspects of Ecuadorian life and culture through life-size dioramas and interactive demonstrations.
