Jelenia Gora

Nestled at the foot of the imposing Krkonoše Mountains that separate the Czech Republic and Poland is the 900 year-old town of Jelenia Gora.

About

The town is located in the valley of the same name, which over the centuries has become densely populated with castles, palaces, chateaus and manor houses. Among the most popular of these architectural gems is the striking Wojanow Palace situated in a large enclosed park just outside the town. In the close vicinity are several other palatial buildings that have been converted to hotels, but Wojanow is clearly the most impressive. The palace was converted to a hotel and conference center in 2008 although visitors are welcome to explore the grounds and the palace and to use the facilities of this lovingly restored thirteenth-century marvel. There is an exhibition of the castle’s history in the sumptuous palace café and wine bar while a stroll around the idyllic 16-hectare park to witness the romantic silhouette of the palace reflected in the water in the lake is an image that few visitors ever forget.
