Bathe at the base of a waterfall surrounded by the lush El Yunque rainforest.
Juan Diego Falls are one of the many beautiful waterfalls that dot El Yunque rainforest. Hidden from view, they’re actually easily accessible by a short walk on a dirt trail (so you may get muddy). Along the way, you pass a few smaller cascades that tumble into pools where you can sit to cool off. As you continue the falls grow in size, until you reach the end of the trail and the 15-foot San Diego Falls. Streaming from the jungle into a cool pool, it’s the perfect setting to relax and take in the lush El Yunque forest. There’s even a larger waterfall in view in the background! These upper falls are about 40 feet high and quite impressive, and visited by fewer people. Unfortunately no “official” trail to reach them, but if you’re in good shape (and have proper shoes), you can scramble up a steep mud path to reach them. Please note: you must purchase tickets and make reservations to enter El Yunque in advance through https://www.recreation.gov/ticket/facility/300017
