Kamnik

A flourishing trading town in the Middle Ages, Kamnik was first mentioned in the 11th century. Today, the preserved suburb of Ljubljana is home to a little over 10,000 habitants.

About

Kamnik is a small town in northern Slovenia surrounded by the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Its historical city center boasts rich preserved history and tradition. Glavni trg (main square) and Sutna (main street) are at the heart of the old town where Little Castle (Mali Grad) and the Romanesque two-story chapel can be found. Mali Grad is an important medieval monument with a beautiful view of the city overlooking the Alps. There are also many quaint shops and local food markets in the center for passersby to enjoy. Higher above the town, the Old Castle (Stari Grad) ruins are an important sight depicting the remains of the homes of Bavarian noble families. The city of Kamnik also houses a number of museums and galleries. The most notable ones being the castle Zaprice and the private Sadnikar museum, and the Franciscan monastery with collections of ancient books and treasures.
