Karuizawa is a popular resort town located just a few hours away from Tokyo, at the foot of the active volcano, Mount Asama, in Nagano Prefecture. Despite its small size, which allows for quick exploration, the town offers a dreamy setting amidst beautiful nature. Visitors can explore Harunire Terrace, a shopping strip showcasing notable wooden architecture situated next to a river. Adjacent to the Harunire Terrace are the Kogen Church and Stone Church. Not far from the terrace is the shopping street, Kyukaruizawa Ginza-dori (Old Karuizawa Shopping Street), where one can get souvenirs and local handicrafts. For a serene experience, a stroll around Kumoba Pond is highly recommended, known for its tranquil atmosphere. For relaxation, Hoshino Onsen (an "onsen" is a Japanese hot spring) is a compact yet delightful stop. Many visitors also flock to the town for skiing, as the Karuizawa Prince Ski Resort is one of the most accessible ski destinations from Tokyo.
