Kitakyushu

This city stands as the northernmost city of Kyushu, acting as the stunning gateway between Japan's main islands.

About

Since the Meiji Era, Kitakyushu has been a pivotal industrial center on the island, bridging the gap between Kyushu and Honshu. It thrives as a center for history and art, with landmarks such as Kokura Castle showcasing Japanese customs through time. The meticulously restored stronghold proudly symbolizes the city, nestled in Katsuyama Park and sharing its domain with the Kokura Castle Japanese Garden and revered Yasaka Shrine. In spring, the park's hundreds of cherry trees create a stunning spectacle during the sakura season. Moji Port, with its historical edifices from the late 19th century, was designated a "special trade port" in 1889, lauded for coal exports and its proximity to China. The port's prosperity led to the establishment of western-style buildings housing financial institutions and merchant companies. The area encompasses the Idemitsu Museum of Arts and the Mojiko Retro Observation Room, which affords panoramic vistas of Moji Port, Shimonoseki, and the Kanmon Straits.
