Kenya
This impressive display of African wildlife and artefacts all stems from a five-year-old’s insect collection.
From a young age, Naturalist Lieutenant Colonel Stoneham collected butterflies, insects, and books as a hobby which later led to the creation of the impressive Kitale Museum. Today, the museum is filled with taxidermy animals that peer down from the walls and various insects that rest under the security of glass cases. A large number of precious ethnographic artifacts collected from various ethnic groups in the area live at the museum alongside the unmoving wildlife. The museum grounds feature a nature trail filled with living animals and rare plants. The trail winds in and out of traditional Kenyan houses and is the perfect place to spot a black-and-white colobus monkey or a crocodile.
