Bulgaria
This striking estate was meant to help with wine-production, but had a hand in helping Bulgaria as well.
Built in 1754 to assist with the local wine production, the estate was later bought by a well-known Greek merchant named Kordopulov. During Bulgaria's efforts for independence, and in the time before World War I, Bulgarian revolutionaries took shelter in the house. Today, visitors can admire the well-preserved architecture - a unique blend of Ottoman, Venetian and Bulgarian styles, and the beautifully furnished interiors. The house still serves its initial purpose, as its cellar can take up to 300 tons of wine, which happens to be also accessible. Better still, visitors can also taste the wines on site.
