Several renovations and eclectic owners have left this medieval castle with a unique collection of architecture and artefacts.
Built in the 14th century by the Gorka family, the castle was originally a defensive structure, complete with moat. The 16th century saw the castle remodelled into the Renaissance style, while another update transformed it into a Baroque Residence. Finally, a remodelling in the 19th century gave the castle the neo-Gothic appearance seen today. Today, the castle’s stately interior is home to the Kornik Library of the Polish Academy of Science, as well as a museum exhibiting everything from furniture to paintings and militaria. One particular highlight is the the Moor Room, which was inspired by the Court of the Lions in Alhambra, Spain. Please note: visitors are required to wear slippers to preserve the wooden floors.
