Kranj is the capital of the Gorenjska region and is situated between two alpine rivers - Sava and Kokra. The city is an old Roman settlement, illustrating Gothic and Baroque architecture. Many Slovenes have contributed to Kranj's development, most notably the famous poet France Presern. The preserved old town is known for its medieval skyline shaped by city walls, a castle, and church towers. The old town has been protected as a cultural monument since 1983. It features a plethora of historical monuments, modern art spaces, and museums. There are also many bars, shops, and theaters to explore in this picturesque town.
