Netherlands
Surrounded Europe’s largest sculpture garden, this incomparable museum has the world’s second largest Van Gogh collection, and works by masters like Renoir, Rodin, and Picasso.
The Helene Kröller-Müller started as a pet project for Helene to showcase her personal collection. She was one of the earliest to recognize the work of van Gogh, and bought over 90 of his works while he was still relatively unknown, often purchasing them right after they were made. In 1935, after she was unable to realize her vision, Helene donated her entire collection to the state of the Netherlands. Over the years, the museum’s collection continued to grow, and it’s now home to an amazing collection of impressionism, symbolism, cubism, and avant-garde works by greats such as Picasso, Renoir, Cézanne, and Mondriaan. The surrounding 30 hectare park is one of the largest sculpture gardens in Europe, which exhibits an array of modern and contemporary works, including pieces by Rodin and Jean Dubuffet.
