Experience your first ‘chimp trek’ as you walk through the dense forest spotting one of the many species of monkey that are hanging from the trees.
On the very east side of the Queen Elizabeth National Park lies the Kyambura Gorge, home of the Kyambura Game Reserve. It is an extremely bio-diverse habitat for many species, the most popular being monkeys. The species inhabiting the area are the chimpanzee, red-tailed monkeys, colobus monkeys, baboons, and vervet monkeys. Only the chimps are habituated (meaning that they are now used to having humans around in their daily lives) but you can surely spot a number of monkeys while on a wildlife tour. The Kyambura Gorge is also a perfect place for bird watching, some species that reside here are the Martial Eagle, Bar-tailed Godwit, Black-rumped Buttonquail, Shoebill, African Skimmer, and Lesser plus Greater Flamingo. Be prepared to be surrounded by all forms of life in a wonderful ecosystem of creatures. Please note that the reserve charges an admission fee ($10 per person) upon entry.
