Discover the story behind the world’s best pepper at this community-centric, organic, family-run farm.
La Plantation pepper farm carries on a Cambodian tradition dating back to the 13th century when Chinese immigrants introduced the spicy little fruit to Kampot. During the Cambodian civil war, the large pepper farms established by French colonialists in the late 19th century were abandoned, and it’s only in recent years that the tradition has been revived. The certified-organic, family run La Plantation, offers visitors a guided tour of the sprawling farm, explaining how the peppers are grown, harvested and processed. For an even more unique way to experience the local countryside, you can enjoy a water-buffalo pulled cart around the villages, and down to the shore of the Secret Lake, to see local rural lifestyle first hand with insights provided by the friendly guide. Foodies won’t want to miss the cooking class, which will immerse you in the Khmer cooking tradition - you can even shop with the chef at the Kampot market (should be planned in advance - email info@kampotpepper.com).
