Two sheets of water divide the Lagoa das Empadadas, formed from a pair of joined volcanic craters in Capelas. Typical Macaronesian and cryptomeria forests circle the body of water, enclosing it from the surrounding island and making it a little-known treasure to tourists. Enjoy the secluded area, also known as “The Secret Lagoons of São Miguel”, which formed after volcanic eruptions at the end of the 20th century and evolved due to rains over several decades. The viewpoint Miradouro do Pico do Paul is further ahead, from which you can observe the lakes from above. It’s a popular spot for fishing, as it is home to a variety of fish species, including carp, tench, and bream - rent fishing equipment and spend a relaxing couple of hours fishing on the lake's tranquil waters.
