There's nothing like a beautiful turquoise lake to take away the blues.
The view of the caldera from the rim of this ancient volcano is truly spectacular! Mineral deposits give this lake a turquoise hue that almost glows when the sun is shining. Created when the crater collapsed after an almighty eruption 740 years ago, the resulting depression proceeded to fill with water until it reached a depth of 250 metres. Although better visited for it’s amazing scenery, there is the chance to see hummingbirds, doves and falcons here. Mountain wolves may also be viewed in the distance. Being a farming region there is always a chance that you’ll run into sheep herds accompanied by a llama or two. Hiking to the lake is moderately strenuous, but the good news is that you can be led on horseback if you’re not up to the climb. Kayaks can be rented cheaply at the lake when you get there if watersports is your thing.
