Lagunas de Atillo

Located within the larger Sangay National Park and Ozogoche lake complex, the Lagunas de Atillo are a picturesque series of lagoons backed by the jagged Andean peaks. Hiking trails wind through the surrounding grasslands, offering the chance to enjoy panoramas of the lagoons and mountains, streams, and waterfalls, and look for the many species of plants and animals that inhabit these mountains above the Amazon basin. The cold, high-altitude weather, and isolated landscape make it easy to believe the stories of the Puruháe people drowning criminals in the frigid waters in pre-Columbian times.
