Lahuen Ñadi Natural Monument

Walk among giants in one of the last bastions of the endangered Fitzroya tree.

About

The Lahuen nadi Natural Monument protects 100 hectares of endangered Fitzroya trees. Fitzroyas, also known as Lahuen, Patagonian cypress, or alerce, are some of the longest-lived trees on the planet, but were logged nearly to extinction in the 18th and 19th centuries for their rot-resistant wood. Some in the Lahuen nadi Natural Monument are over 1800 years old! Follow the relatively short path beneath South America’s largest tree species while keeping an eye out for birds and endemic species like Darwin’s frog or the little monkey of the mountain. Please note: entry fee is not included.
