Uganda
The smallest savannah in Uganda houses a large variety of local wildlife in this microcosm of the continent’s most iconic landscape
Lake Mburo was designated a national park in 1983 but despite its protected status it suffered decades of tumult due to the country’s power struggle. Regime changes and tribal tensions led to the expulsion of locals, efforts to reclaim the land by those who were expelled and a large amount of dead wildlife. Similarly, projects intended to neutralize the tsetse fly also had adverse effects on the population of animals in the area. The park has since been able to reintroduce a great deal of zebras, giraffes, warthogs, hippos, lions and over 350 species of birds. The work that local tribes have done along with Ugandan governmental agencies have allowed the park to once again flourish. There is much to do and even more to see. From Boat safaris to horseback riding, this little slice of wilderness really allows you to see the diverse wildlife of the African Savannah in a compact and gorgeous location, Make sure to not miss the traditional food served with gorgeous views of the namesake lake. Please note that the park charges an admission fee ($40 for adults and $20 for children), payable upon entry. For more information, please visit https://www.ugandawildlife.org/
