This former factory is now a unique park where visitors can enjoy green spaces and and a variety of activities.
In the 19th century, Duisburg-Meiderich became a major industrial hub, eventually becoming home to a coal and steel production plant. After being abandoned in the 1980s, a plan was made to use this industrial past to benefit the present community. The Landscape Park Duisburg Nord transformed the 180-hectare industrial site into a lively community center. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful walking paths, where greenery is slowly reclaiming heavy machinery. Climbing enthusiasts can navigate the high ropes course in the old casthouse, or scale the former ore deposit bunker. The Gasometer in the former smelting works is now the the largest indoor diving pool in europe, while the blast furnace is a lookout tower which offers fantastic views across the park. At night, special light installations illuminate the steelworks, transforming the industrial infrastructure into a work of art. Throughout the year, the park is also used for special events, such as a summer cinema, or Christmas market.
