Switzerland
Learn about, and see, Switzerland’s indigenous animals as they roam large enclosures that mirror their natural habitat.
Founded in 1869 by the Zürich city forester Carl Anton Ludwig von Orelli, Langenberg is the country’s oldest wildlife park. Unlike most zoos, the park’s enclosures give the animals plenty of room to roam, and are landscaped to reflect their natural habitat, allowing them to retreat or behave as they would in nature. The 16 native species that call the park home include wolves, brown bears, elks, wild boar, and as of 2012, European bison and Przewalski’s horse. Thanks to the park’s layout, visitors can enjoy what feels like a quiet walk in an animal-filled forest.
