Chile
This reserve showcases the arid landscape typical of the region, characterized by an abundance of cacti and native Chilean vegetation.
Las Chinchillas National Reserve is a sanctuary dedicated to the protection of the Lanígera Chinchilla and its fragile natural environment. The reserve is teeming with diverse vegetation like quillay, litre, maitén, carbonillo, and fauna, including rodents such as the chinchilla mouse, brush mouse, cururo, lauchón orejudo, and spiny mouse. Bird enthusiasts will delight in the variety of avian species, with tench, thrush, partridge, loica, cordoniz, diuca, turtledove, yal, tapaculo, and turca among the easiest to spot. Visitors can explore an informative environmental center, which houses South America's only 'nocturama,' a unique room where you can observe Lanígera Chinchillas and other nocturnal animals through one-way glass. CONAF administers the reserve, keeping its doors open to the public seven days a week, including holidays, from 9AM to 6PM.
