Originally a Celtic settlement, Lausanne is now the second-largest city on Lake Geneva. Its historic old town is largely car free and filled beautiful monuments, such as the 13th century cathedral. Considered the most impressive piece of early-Gothic architecture in the country, every day since 1405, a lookout has called out the hour 10 PM to 2 AM. The city is also home to some exceptional museums, such as the Art Brut museum in Beaulieu Castle, the Olympic Museum, which provides and overview of the Games’ history, and the charming Fondation de l'Hermitage, every-changing art exhibition breath new life into the classic 19th century villa.
