Linh Phuoc Pagoda

It took 12,000 glass bottles to create the 49-meter-long dragon that welcomes visitors to this colorful, mosaic-covered temple.

About

The Linh Phuoc Pagoda was completed in 1952 after a particularly painstaking construction process. Right at the entrance gate, visitors are given a sample of what’s to come in the form of a serpentine dragon made by meticulously piecing together thousands of glass bottles. The main hall is equally intricate, with countless pieces of broken porcelain, glass, and terracotta covering the walls, ceilings, and statues. Here, visitors can pray to Buddha by writing wishes on small yellow pieces of paper, sticking them to a bell, and ringing the bell three times. At 37 meters tall, Linh Phuoc’s belltower is the highest in the region, and its 8,500 kg bell might be the heaviest in Vietnam. Standing next to this is a strikinging, 18-metre-high golden statue of Bodhisattva, covered with over a half-million flowers.
