Slovenia
The capital and largest city in Slovenia, Ljubljana is high on the list of the world’s most sustainable tourist destinations.
Wedged between Austria and Italy, Ljubljana is small in surface area but large in terms of hospitality and quality of life. It was awarded the “Green Capital of Europe” for 2016. The city features a plethora of theaters, museums, and galleries and is home to one of the oldest philharmonic orchestras in the world. Stop by the Ljubljana Castle to check the marvelous view from its Tower and walk the Three Bridges over the Ljubljanica River into Old City. Traffic is restricted in the city center, leaving the banks of the river free for pedestrians and cyclists. With a name (according to one theory) meaning “beloved”, how could you not love it?
