Luque

Luque rose to prominence during times of war, but today, scores are settled on the football field.

About

One of the most historically significant cities in the country, Luque was the temporary capital of Paraguay during the bloody Paraguayan War. Later on, the city burgeoned during the era of Carlos Antonio Lopez when railways were established in the country. The ease of travel to and from the city influenced Luque for years to come and craftsmen and artisans introduced skills and goods to the area. Today, Luque is known for producing top-quality silver jewellery and skillfully embossed leather products. Visitors can experience Paraguay’s prosperous past at the Luque’s railway museum, Museo Ferroviario, or take a stroll through the expansive urban Ñu Guasú Park. Luque is also home to the governing body of association football in South America. Get a taste of the national pastime at the Museo del Fútbol Sudamericano and be sure to check the opening hours so you’ll be able to walk through the hall of champions.
