Uruguay
From the architecture to the artifacts, this city's historic atmosphere will cast a spell on you.
Founded in the 1500s, Maldonado was built on a mix of Spanish and native Guarani influence. This can be seen throughout the city, such as San Fernando de Maldonado's Cathedral, or the Spanish style barracks that create an attractive backdrop for sight-seeing. The gems of Maldonaldo are the Didactic Artigas Museum, which is a small museum in the Spanish barracks. This museum has a wonderful collection of paintings and sculptures that show Uruguayan art and its many changes throughout history. The other delightful destination of Maldonado is the Francisco Mazzoni Regional Museum, located in a former high-society mansion, this charming museum that displays colonial life with a collection of tools and instruments from both the high society and indigenous people of the time. If the museums haven’t tired you out, make sure to check out Calle Royal (Royal Street), as it is known for the fast food restaurants, where you can sample Uruguayan cuisine!
