The House of Columns is a Swahili structure operating as a museum showcasing ever changing temporary exhibitions with themes such as marine life and tribal history and culture. The Vasco da Gama Pillar is one of the most iconic sights in Malindi, though not for its aesthetics but rather what it represents; an age of exploration, installed in the late 1400’s by Portugese explorer, Vasco da Gama. European influence continued as many Scicilian’s settled in Malindi in the 1970’s, and the coastal town remains popular as a destination with Italian tourists today. Malindi is also home to Africa’s oldest marine park, home to coral reefs, sea urchins and many other species of sea life in the crystal clear waters.
