Marbella

Spain’s answer to St. Tropez, this seaside city is a favourite of the rich and famous, while still offering a charming historic center.

About

Having been home to Phoenicians, Romans, and Visigoths, the town rose in prominence under Moorish rule, eventually becoming their most important coastal possession. Even today, their presence can be felt in the city, be it the tower from their 9th century citadel, or the Arab kings who still own property here. The prestigious Puerto Banús is the waterfront strip, which welcomes some of the most luxurious yachts into the world, to allow their owners access to the luxury developments, and premium business. At the heart of the nearby historic city center is Renaissance Plaza de Los Naranjos, which is flanked by stately buildings such as the 16th century City Hall and 17th century Chief Magistrate's Office. There are also remnants of Roman rule, such as the Paleochristian basilica of Vega del Mar, the baths of Guadalmina, or the villa of Río Verde.
