Immerse yourself in the world that inspired America’s favorite author and humorist.
Since 1912, the Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum has been preserving the legacy of Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known as author Mark Twain. Located on the banks of the Mississippi, the inspiration for many of Clemens’ stories can be found right here. That white picket fence found the inspiration for many of his stories, like the picket fence that was such a burden on Tom Sawyer. The house itself is filled with mementos from Clemens’ life, including his iconic white suit coat (the only known surviving), and a jewelry box he had hand-carved in Italy as a gift to his wife, Olivia. The museum also boasts the second-largest collection of Norman Rockwell paintings, which were commissioned as illustrations for a special edition of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. You’ll also find interactive exhibits including a river raft ride with Tom and Huck. The museum complex also includes four other buildings related to Twain’s life and stories.
