Brunei Darussalam
The third Sultan of Brunei lays to rest in this stunning mausoleum, just outside of the city center in Kota Batu.
The Mausoleum of Sultan Sharif Ali is a touching tribute to Sultan Sharif Ali, also known as “Sultan Berkat” or the “Blessed Sultan”. He was a devout ruler who played a crucial role in shaping the early identity of Brunei as an Islamic empire, responsible for building its first mosque, and implementing Islamic laws. Beside the Mausoleum of Sultan Sharif Ali lies the "Royal Mausoleum," where at least 10 other sultans and their family members are buried. Today, the Mausoleum of Sultan Sharif Ali is a popular attraction, drawing both locals and visitors who come to pay their respects and learn about the significant role Sultan Sharif Ali played in shaping the nation's history. Its proximity to other historical sites, such as the Brunei Museum and the mausoleum of Sultan Bolkiah, makes Kota Batu a destination rich in heritage and culture, offering a glimpse into Brunei's past and the contributions of its great rulers.
