As the world's only museum dedicated to parasites, this quirky Tokyo attraction might make your skin crawl, but captivates those searching for truly unusual experiences
This Tokyo museum is truly one of a kind: it stands as the only museum dedicated to parasites, showcasing creatures of all shapes and sizes that might make even the bravest shudder. The museum has around 300 parasite specimens on display, with one of the highlights being the world's longest tapeworm, spanning a terrifying 28 feet. Visitors can interact with a rope of the same length to truly grasp its enormity. The museum's first floor features maps of Japan highlighting regions with specific parasites and displays dedicated to those infecting animals. The second floor takes a more unsettling turn, focusing on parasites that afflict humans, accompanied by vivid photographs and illustrations. For those interested, a gift shop offers a range of parasite-themed merchandise, from T-shirts to keyrings and birthday cards. Admission is free, and the museum welcomes visitors from Wednesday to Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm.
